Capricornus is the smallest constellation of the zodiacs, and is among the faintest. The traditional name for the constellation is Algedi, derived from the Arabic words for "the kid," a reference to its goat mythology. Like the Sumerian sea goat god of wisdom and waters, Enki, the constellation has the head and upper body of a goat and the lower body of a fish. Nearly every main star is actually a double star binary, sometimes visible with the naked eye. Capricorn is home to many galaxies, but among those of note are three interacting streams of stars and dust that astronomers think will merge into a large elliptical galaxy in millions of years.
